iPad's Win Over Android's Failure

How and why is Apple so far ahead in the tablet market and didn’t why Android rule the roost like it did with its phones? Business Insider listed what it called “obvious” answers to these questions and more:

Quality: The iPad is better than everything else the market has to offer. According to the Business Insider report, the iOS is a cut above the other OSes available in the market for tablets. It also has better and more appealing apps. Android unfortunately is the same on both smartphones and tablets—meaning that the only difference between the two would be a difference in the screen size. Windows 8 was called fresh and appealing because of how its UI was and its consumer preview’s download numbers seem to be promising, but it still is yet to enter the race.

Price: For its quality, the iPad is cheaper than its competitors in the market. According to Business Insider, nobody even seems to have a comparable product at a price close to the iPad’s.

"Cl-openness": After 585,000 apps, Apple is surprisingly considered to be a lot more open than closed, according to Business Insider’s report; this makes it more appealing to developers. Couple developers' enthusiasm with Apple’s security measures, and you have more good apps that are available to download, which in turn makes the iPad more appealing to customers.

Compatibility: IPad sales are better this time especially in the US since it is not limited by carriers—it is now available to customers using any of the carriers and not just to AT&T or Verizon customers. In the Indian perspective, however, all you need to run an iPad’s connectivity (according to Apple’s Support Communities and the Mac rumors forums) would be a 3G micro sim which incidentally is provided by most major carriers, from BSNL to Reliance.

Are there any other factors that contribute to Apple’s success? How do you think Android could try a comeback to the iPad’s third generation of sales? Will Microsoft’s entry with Windows 8 change anything? Why do you think the iPad’s sales weren’t even slightly affected by the controversies surrounding Apple and the “ethical” manufacture of its devices? Sound off in the comments section.
